Stuart Scott (Executive Director of UPFSI) heads up a presentation at COP 22 on the food and climate change choices, food security and the impacts of climate change on food production. They cover quite a bit in terms of animal extinction and food security or rather food insecurity as climate change starts to be felt in all areas of the globe. This initiative was put together by the United Planet Faith and Science Initiative.
Some really excellent speakers Sailesh Rao (Executive Director – Climate Healers.org), Emily Rushton (OraTaiao New Zealand Health and Climate Council), Debra Boudreux (Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation) all covering topics that are related to their fields of expertise and citing research reports from various areas around the world.
What strikes me as interesting is how each different member although from a diverse background all unite on the same basic factors in terms of climate science and the impacts on food supply. It would seem abundantly clear to anyone watching that the time to alter the diet of modern day society is upon us. Even more ironic is that the fact that society in general does not need to give up entirely on a meat diet. Even a reduction in the quantity of meat would have significant dramatic impacts on the negative effects of livestock rearing.
What was also interesting in this presentation on food and climate change was their utilisation of mainstream movies to support their points, it’s also the image utilised in this release.
