COP 20 Lima IPCC Working Groups 2 & 3 Members Dr. Chris Field & Dr. Youba Sokona presentation on: Overview of the COP 20 conference and IPCC Risk Assessment Report AR5 addressing key issues on Climate Change in the context of Global Change.
Dr. Chris Field:
Climate change is rooted in science. The problem and understanding of the problem and understanding the vulnerabilities and understanding of solutions; all are rooted in a thorough and careful scientific evaluation. He has been privileged to chair the steering group that is putting together a program for an ambitious science symposium to be held in July 2015 in Paris as part of the long chain concepts for Cop 21. The scientific community has worked super hard over many decades in order to assemble an understanding that is actionable for the policy process and we and the scientific community feel really privileged to bring this understanding into focus in the lead up to the Cop.
He also discusses:
- Understanding the physics of the climate system
- Preparing societies to cope with climate change
Dr. Youba Sokona discusses the following topics:
- The critical challenges in policy, social, economic sides
- What we know and what we don’t know
- A sustainable future
